MAGALI SIMARD. Curator and the senior manager of theatrical programming at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), working on all commercial runs at the TIFF Bell Lightbox as well as overseeing the Film Circuit, TIFF’s outreach programme across the country. Bringing her experience in the Canadian film industry and deep knowledge cinema, she co-programmes the Festival’s Canadian feature films. She also co-programmed the Festival’s Short Cuts Canada section for five years.
Simard contributed film notes for the TIFF publication Toronto on Film, and has written for local online publications. She has served on juries for the Berlinale Teddy Awards, Rio de Janeiro’s Curta Cinema, the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma and the Sundance Film Festival. She is a regular guest on Radio-Canada and has hosted screenings and panels internationally for the National Film Board, Nordisk Panorama, the National Screen Institute, Ryerson University, Telefilm Canada among many others.
Simard is from Gatineau, Quebec and has a cinema studies degree from the University of Toronto. She is often featured as a cultural leader in Canada, having been profiled by Elle, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail and La Presse.
