Derived from her album “CATTO” (2017), the tour travelled all over Brazil and several countries, such as Italy, the United States, Spain, Portugal, Argentina and Uruguay, and represented the beginning of a period of cultural and political effervescence in the country, in which “minorities” rose up against historical oppressions and brought to the fore agendas that intensified even more the conflict between the old and the new social order. “O Nascimento de Vênus Tour” is a treatise on resistance and transformation of a Brazilian singer in the eye of the hurricane of the revolution in which we live.
On March 13, 2020, the artist and her band took the stage not knowing that it would be the last show of the tour. The following day, São Paulo was officially closed and the entire cultural industry lost its source of income indefinitely. Luckily, the audio was recorded for further release, and during isolation, the artist and music producer DJ Jojo Lonestar pored over this material to turn it into a farewell live album for the prematurely ended project. The work reveals Catto and her band in a visceral and unretouched performance, where the sweat and tears of that moment are also mixed with audio leaks and the heat of the audience in a vintage sound that refers to live rock records from the 1970s. Also celebrating 10 years of career, Catto updates her repertoire reborn from the fire of Rock’n’Roll in a performance of pure delivery. As there was no video recording of this presentation to follow the album release, Catto invited video directors and partners Daguito Rodrigues and Juliana Robin to build with her the visual narrative that would translate the audio of the fateful show into a visual spectacle of hybrid language. “O Nascimento de Vênus Tour” – the film – had its official premiere at the Museu da Imagem e do Som, in São Paulo, and is an aesthetic and musical experiment that unites video art, fashion, video clips and documentary in a unique experience.
In July 2021, still during social isolation, the artist recorded a performance dressed as a mermaid in the studio, playing the songs from the album and linking the images of this act with archival material from the tour over the years. The idea was to reveal to the public Catto’s gender transformation in all intimacy. With the multi-artist Alma Negrot’s beauty and stylishness and the tail made by the plastic artist Thiá Sguoti, the film is a love letter to the LGBTQIA+ community, which found in friendship and collaboration a way to continue producing despite all the logistical and budget. At a time when the Brazilian artist is so vulnerable, Catto and her troupe make the impossible a questioning, resignifying the traditional concept of a live album so that it can be the starting point of different concerns and formats in a new era already precarious for the national culture. A project that was born without incentives, without sponsors and was created with the sweat and determination of independent and LGBTQIA+ artists from Brazil.

NOV 11 @ CCSP – JARDEL FILHO 7pm (90′) – 12 y/o #trans #documentary #mixmusic “O Nascimento de Vênus Tour” is the second live album by singer Filipe Catto, marking her gender transition as a non-binary trans person and also bringing to the public a film/show/documentary covering the last four years of the artist in […]

[692
656
0":"post-1543","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mixmusic-en-en","8":"tag-documentary-en
["GET
