The virtual exhibition “Animal People Animal” gathers a number of works, from regular media drawings (acrilic paint and oil pastel) to 3D sculptures, and represent the power of the LGBTQIA+ body as a survivor in society. Literal representations, portraying images easily recognizable as humans, mingling with animalish and, sometimes, abstract ones. The intention, with these images, is to reinforce that as “people” we are made of conflicting states, yet living together in parallel: we are, at the same time, rational, pacific and contemplative but also confuse, chaotic and wild. This last state, animalish and rustic, is what, in many cases, allows us to survive and to defend ourselves from a society that keeps rejecting us, putting us on the sidelines. Being so, the present work spreads out from any kind of Manichaeism (people x animal) and proposes a discussion on the human body fluidity. It seeks to represent, from aesthetic choices, the everlasting metamorphosis and adaptability of the body, far from the binary classification of gender, in reply to the traumas caused by society.
