It’s a statement claiming that despite the regrets, and also because of them, we can build a present time and a future where drawers, closets, and stereotypes stop making sense.

Throughout the extensive program — with 137 works among films, XR experiences, theater performances, games, and activities such as shows, workshops for the children and for audiovisual professionals, panel discussions on literature and parties —, a huge diversity of talents and perspectives coming from 37 countries is presented. A transmedia journey transcending barriers, inspiring and leading to several ways of creation, inclusion, desire, and freedom. A celebration of who we are, love and dream of, and the immortal presences of André Pomba, Zé Celso Martinez Corrêa and Danilo Santos de Miranda.

Some changes, started some time ago, keep on moving forward. Consolidating the program integration process that seeks to not hierarchize information, we propose a new way of navigating the festival content. Totally online, it aims to give the same value to all the artistic manifestations included in the festival and it also points out to the beginning of an active process of reduction and awareness on the impact generated by our activities in the environment. Accessibility actions also make themselves present beyond the rooms, with inclusion acts and audience development for people living with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).

The campaign created by Danilo Janjacomo, directed by Brendo+Gonfiantini and produced by Stink, and the world premiere of Igi Lola Ayedun’s new work “Eclosion of a dream, a fantasy”, both of them AI-generated, are milestones for the capacity of transcending the traditional art boundaries and of innovating present in the program.

MixLab Spcine, which has a training character for the community professionals, brings among the highlights filmmakers sharing experiences, including Lillah Halla and Zeno Graton, and the new metaverse project by director and playwright Janaína Leite.

New acts are added to the traditional ones, with Marisa Orth leading the indescribable The Gong Show for 25 years and Silvetty Montilla introducing for almost two decades already, the priceless drag queens and singing shows of New Talents. Renata Carvalho joins Gus van Sant, João Nery, Marina Lima, Marcia Pantera, Ney Matogrosso and Linn da Quebrada in the luxurious gallery of professional careers honored with the Mix Icon Award.

All of this in four areas at MIS (the place where Mix Brasil was created in 1993), Cinesesc, Sérgio Cardoso Theater, Cine Olido, Instituto Moreira Salles, Sala Paulo Emílio at CCSP, Museum of Portuguese Language, Mário de Andrade Library, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook @festivalmixbrasil and in the partner digital platforms Sesc Digital, Spcine Play, Itaucultural Play and CultSP Play.

The magic happens thanks to the incredible warrior team gathering each year and to the sponsorship of Itaú, Mercado Livre and Spcine, the support of Sesc SP, the French consultate in São Paulo and a number of partnerships without which we wouldn’t be able to present so many activites to celebrate LGBTQIA+ identities diversity, passions and artistic expression!

André Fischer

We’ve Never Been So Mix Welcome to the 31st Mix Brasil Festival!
