Welcome to the 32nd Festival MixBrasil of Culture and Diversity!
In this edition, MixBrasil reaffirms its essence as a space for resistance and transformation.
With fewer resources but even more determination, we prove that the festival is, more than just an event, a network movement with a strong cultural impact. Under the theme “It’s in the light that we meet,” we honor the moth—symbol of an unrelenting search for light that reflects the journey of the LGBT+ community toward visibility and recognition. Created by Talent, produced by Vetor Zero and Evil Twin, featuring Linn da Quebrada, this year’s campaign brings us back to traditional filmmaking after last year’s fantastic experimentation with artificial intelligence.
Throughout the program, the audience will have access to a diversity of notable films in the international circuit and the best of national audiovisual production regarding diversity themes.
Sessions have been made possible through collaborations such as the MixLiterário; the Visual Arts occupation with the Cuscuz and Artemisia collectives; the MixMusic, presented by absolutely diverse talents; MixGames, held in collaboration with Gamescom Latam; and the celebration of Mercado Mundo Mix 30th anniversary, with Feira das Ideias.
This year, the Show do Gongo—a traditional and infamous moment of the festival—will have a special edition, featuring the irreverence of the successful Gongada Drag.
Immersive technology remains in the spotlight, providing unique experiences that connect the public in innovative ways.
MIX.XR, the largest LGBT+ immersive realities program in the world, expands with multi-user content and virtual reality merging with performance, holography, and artificial intelligence, creating new ways to expand LGBT+ narratives.
The 32nd MixBrasil celebrates diversity through more than two hundred works and activities from 32 countries, featuring films, shows, performances, visual arts exhibitions, games, workshops, dramatic readings, and literary panels. In each activity, the participants are invited to interact and recognize themselves in the light of plurality, resistance, and freedom.
The filmmaker Bruce LaBruce is the 2024 Mix Icon and joins other icons who have influenced and participated in the history of MixBrasil: Gus Van Sant, João Nery, Marina Lima, Marcia Pantera, Ney Matogrosso, Linn da Quebrada, and Renata Carvalho.
At the age of 60, Bruce returns to the festival for the third time, with an immersive exhibition at MIS, of his new film, “The Visitor”. As a gift, he will also perform a DJ set at the party held in his honor at Galeria Vermelho, which will be open to the public. Speaking of parties, they return strong to the official program on almost every night.
The MixLab Spcine program includes workshops and debates on transhuman representations, intersectionalities, and artificial intelligence in cinema and immersive realities, as well as an artistic residency by the Franco-Chilean Selva González, whose production and research combine biology and virtual reality.
The festival occupies many venues located throughout São Paulo: five spaces at MIS, Cinesesc, Instituto Moreira Salles, Teatro Sérgio Cardoso, Cine Olido Sala Paulo Emílio at CCSP, Biblioteca Mário de Andrade, Galeria Vermelho, Galeria Piège Pour Un Voyeur, and the Artemisia Occupation. In the digital space, MixBrasil expands its reach on its YouTube and Instagram channels, and streams on partner platforms Sesc Digital, Spcine Play, and ItauCultural Play.
This journey is made possible by the tireless work of our brave team and supporters such as Itaú, Sesc SP, Spcine, and the French Consulate, among other institutions. Our commitment to sustainability is also strengthened: we are focused on practices that reduce environmental impact and are financially viable, as well as actions that expand accessibility so that MixBrasil remains an inclusive space for all.
May this edition be a journey of luminous encounters!
