Three jurors of the 7th Mix Literary Award come together to discuss the emerging trends found in this year’s submissions: originality, engagement with queer themes, and linguistic experimentation. Bê RGB works as a poet and translator, with books such as Querides monstres and Transmigrações, as well as recent translations including Permafrost (Eva Baltasar) and 300,000 Kisses (Seán Hewitt & Luke Edward Hall). Gabriela Soutello, winner of the first edition of the Mix Literary Award, is the author of the short story collection Ninguém vai lembrar de mim (No One Will Remember Me) and is about to release her second book. Jean Cândido, founder of Casa Queer + Paratodes, brings the perspective of someone engaged in independent performance, publishing, and curatorial scenes.

Together, they chart the aesthetic and ideological choices that have been emerging in the award: how do we distinguish originality from mere effect? What does “engagement with the queer theme” mean in 2025? And which forms of writing — from translation to performance — are expanding the literary field
