The conference will be divided into two parts of 30 minutes each. In the first part, Joséphine Derobe, author and director, will explain her creative process in creating “Urso, Veado, Gato e os outros bichos”. She will share the challenges faced and discoveries made during writing and production. It will also be an opportunity to discuss her upcoming projects and the new universes she is exploring.
In the second part, Léo will present the operations and productions of Small Creative company, offering a clearer insight into the journey taken over nearly a decade since its inception. He will review the first year of distribution for “Moi Fauve” and explore the future prospects of this project. Additionally, Léo will initiate a dialogue about the various opportunities available for the audience, artists, cultural spaces, and Brazilian and Lusophone producers in the field of digital creation in collaboration with Small Creative.
Joséphine Derobe is a French artist and director who explores various forms of narrative and immersive works in the fields of cinema, digital arts, and theater. In the virtual reality medium, she wrote and directed the documentary “Meet Mortaza”. It premiered globally at the 77th Venice Film Festival in 2020, and in the United States during the SXSW Festival. The film won the Best VR Film Award at the Chelsea Film Festival and at Courant 3D. She also co-wrote and directed “Les Noces de Cana”, based on the painting by Paolo Veronese, produced by Les Poissons Volants, the RMN museum, and Arte Creative. This project won the Best VR Art Award at the Sofia Film Festival. Her latest project, ”Urso, Veado, Gato e os outros bichos” (in English: “Deer, Bear, Cat, and Other Animals”), is a collective and interactive experience in LBE (Location-Based Entertainment), produced by Small Creative. It is a poetic work based on animist mythology, which had its French premiere at the Nemo Festival in Paris in December 2023, at the CENQUATRE-Paris cultural center, and won the Best Interactive Work Award at the NewImages Festival.
Léo Rosa is responsible for the international development of the production company Small Creative. He is in charge of promoting all the Small Creative’s diverse content, especially its Small Stories catalog of immersive and collective virtual reality works. His mission also includes developing new projects in collaboration with institutions, authors, and local producers internationally, so that other stories and imaginaries can travel and reach diverse audiences. Born in Cape Verde, Léo lived in Portugal before settling in France. He studied Applied Foreign Languages to maintain his connection and curiosity for languages and foreign cultures. A graduate of the École Supérieure de Réalisation Audiovisuelle (ESRA) in Paris, Léo continues his creative exploration with experiences in the development and production of television series. Additionally, he has carried out various roles in both professional and public sections of several festivals, including Séries Mania, an international television series festival in Lille, and NewImages, which showcases immersive works from different fields. He was also project manager for the first edition of the Digital Creation Forum in Paris in 2020, an important event dedicated to this vast field before joining Small Creative. With his extensive experience and aligned with the vision of XR as a bridge between various art forms, Léo is dedicated to forging cultural ties between different countries. He maintains close contact with audiences in terms of outreach and mediation while adopting a cross-disciplinary approach. He supports producers in their desire to preserve the identity of a creative studio present at all stages of production, from conception to distribution. This strategy aims to optimize production, ensure editorial consistency, and foster integrated artistic, technological, and economic engineering.
